| Text: | twas night christmas twas night christmas clement clarke moore twas night christmas, house creature stirring, mouse. stockings hung chimney care, hopes nicholas soon there. children nestled snug beds, visions sugar plums danced heads. mamma kerchief, cap, just settled brains long winter nap. lawn arose clatter, sprang bed see matter. away window flew flash, tore open shutters threw sash. moon breast fallen snow gave lustre mid day objects below. when, wondering eyes appear, miniature sleigh, tinny reindeer. little old driver, lively quick, knew moment nick. rapid eagles coursers came, whistled, shouted, called name dasher now, dancer now, prancer vixen on, comet on, cupid on, donner blitzen top porch top wall dash away dash away dash away dry leaves wild hurricane fly, meet obstacle, mount sky. house top coursers flew, sleigh full toys, nicholas too. then, twinkling, heard roof prancing pawing little hoof. drew head, turning around, chimney nicholas came bound. dressed fur, head foot, clothes tarnished ashes soot. bundle toys flung back, looked peddler, just opening pack. eyes twinkled dimples merry cheeks roses, nose cherry droll little mouth drawn bow, beard chin white snow. stump pipe held tight teeth, smoke encircled head wreath. broad face little round belly, shook laughed, bowlful jelly chubby plump, right jolly old elf, laughed saw him, spite wink eye twist head, soon gave know dread. spoke word, went straight work, filled stockings, turned jerk. laying finger aside nose, giving nod, chimney rose sprang sleigh, team gave whistle, away flew thistle. heard exclaim, ere drove sight, happy christmas all, good night |
